Chlamydia Symptoms

Chlamydia Symptoms In Men: Chlamydia is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections in men. To be detected can be quite difficult which makes it so important to know the symptoms. Chlamydia is by far one of the leading sexually transmitted infections around the world. It can affect both men and women. Here is everything you should know about the Chlamydia signs and symptoms in men and what to do in case you are infected.

Chlamydia Symptoms In Men: Chlamydia Trachomatis

Chlamydia is sometimes called the “silent infection” because it tends to be asymptomatic until it gets to a more complicated stage. The disease is caused by a type of bacteria called Chlamydia trachomatis. It is transmitted only by contact with infected semen or vaginal discharge. Hence, any unprotected sexual contact with an infected partner can cause the infection in a healthy individual.

The bacterium Chlamydia symptoms tend to appear more frequently in men than in women. However, nearly half of the men that get infected are not aware of it because they do not experience any symptoms. Sometimes the bacterium Chlamydia symptoms are very mild and can be intermittent. Often though they include pain, burning during urination and a more frequent need to go to the bathroom.

Men who contracted the infection might notice a white, cloudy and watery discharge from the penis. Most of men complain about burning and itching at the opening of the urethra at the tip of the penis. Expect other Chlamydia signs and symptoms once the infection has spread. In these cases, pain in the testicles might appear.

It is very important that once the symptoms appear, one seeks medical attention. Another tricky thing about this type of infection is that it cannot be detected by the regular tests. Therefore, if one suspects he might have Chlamydia he has to specifically request for the only test that detects these bacteria.

Both men and women can find out if they got infected with Chlamydia by ordering a special test. This means taking either a urine sample or a swab of cells. Many people prefer the urine sample test. But note that it is not as reliable as the swab of cells test. This applies especially in the case of men. For men, taking a swab of cells is quite painful and very uncomfortable. It is all worth it though, given the complications that might arise from untreated Chlamydia. These include even infertility.

To conclude: Even if Chlamydia symptoms in men are missing, it does not mean that the infection can’t be passed on. The only way to avoid getting infected is by having safe sex.
